D’Amato settles with ex-partner who claims he stiffed her of $5M
An ex-business partner of Alfonse D’Amato has settled her lawsuit against the former US senator that claimed he cheated her out of $5 million and used her as a “stalking horse” to gain more business.
In her 2014 Manhattan federal suit, Washington lobbyist Mary Arnold accused D’Amato and his brother, Armand, who ran the litigation-consulting firm Precision Discovery, of trying to pawn her off as the head of a new entity, although she’d have “no management control.”
The idea was to score lucrative government contracts through favorable treatment given to women-owned small businesses, the suit claimed.
Arnold said that when she refused to take part in the “scam,” the D’Amatos and Precision CEO Jerry Barbanel retaliated against her by blocking $5 million in commissions she earned by helping the company land a contract with AT&T.
Arnold was recruited to work for Alfonse D’Amato in 2009 and remained under contract with Precision until August 2013, the suit said.
Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Alfonse D’Amato has previously denied her allegations. His lawyers and Arnold didn’t return calls seeking comment.
