Mom seeks help for son with cancer so rare it has no name or cure
A British woman says her young son is battling an aggressive cancer so rare even doctors have never seen it before — and she’s asking for help finding a cure.
Helen Wright, 47, told The Mirror UK that experts at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London have been stumped by the disease her 12-year-old Connor is battling.
“We just want anyone in the world who may be reading this who thinks they can help, to come forward,” the desperate mom said in the article published Sunday.
“There must be someone, somewhere with a medical trial or who has seen a cancer like this before,” she added. “We are not ready to give up on him yet.”
Since the cancer was found in Connor’s stomach three years ago, the youngster has been through more than 30 rounds of chemotherapy, stem-cell therapy, radiotherapy and multiple surgeries, according to the report.
But the cancer nodules keep growing and have since spread to his liver and right lung, the report said.
Doctors have no name for it and the family is at a loss, Wright said.
The Fortnite-loving kid was devastated when a stem cell treatment failed last week, his mother said. He is too sick to go to school and weighs just 54 pounds.
Connor’s “endurance and positivity… give us the belief he’s meant to be here and there’s somebody out there who will be able to help,” his mom said.
The family is now looking for a clinical trial or new treatment to help Connor.
Connor’s mother has set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for her son.
