Emily, a Partner at Bolton-St. Johns since 2008, joined the firm in 1999. Since becoming Partner, Emily has helped lead both the New York City and Albany offices to be among the top-ranked and most well-respected government relations firms in the state. Prior to joining Bolton-St. Johns, she was a lobbyist at Nixon Peabody for over six years. 

Numerous publications have recognized Emily’s efforts on behalf of her clients. City & State Magazine has named Emily several times to both of their annual “New York City Power 100” and “Albany Power 100” lists, calling her a “perennial powerhouse” in New York politics, and recently named Emily as one of the magazine’s “Above & Beyond” award winners for women leaders. The New York Observer also included Emily on their inaugural “Power 80” list. The New York Times has also described Emily as “one of the best-connected and most popular lobbyists at City Hall and in Albany.”

Emily’s expertise and insight have consistently brought results for her clients. She helped win approval for the largest private land use project ever in New York City – a multi-billion dollar deal. She successfully lobbied for several other multi-million dollar projects, such as hospital renovations and energy deals. As the lead lobbyist, Emily was instrumental in the passage of New York’s marriage equality law in 2011. She also protected the intellectual property rights of a prominent New York entertainment company by helping them navigate complex legislation. 

A lifelong New Yorker, Emily is a prominent operative in the New York Democratic Party. She has been a member of the Democratic National Committee since 2000 and has represented New York as a delegate at multiple Democratic National Conventions. Emily is a Vice Chair of the State Democratic Party and plays a significant role in the party by advising local and statewide candidates and grassroots campaigns. 

Emily works in both New York City and Albany. She lives in Manhattan with her wife, Annie Washburn, and their dog, Augie. Emily is a graduate of George Washington University and holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the New School.
