ALBANY — A concrete company co-owned by the head of the state Senate Labor Committee has been sued numerous times for alleged labor violations.
Sen. Jack Martins (R-Nassau County) is a co-owner and vice president of the family-run J&A Concrete Corp. on Long Island.
Records show the company has been named in at least nine labor-related lawsuits since 2008.
Most involved disputes over employee benefits.
The company has also been cited for safety violations more than a dozen times by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration since 2000.
In addition to serving as vice president of J&A Concrete, Martins has been a senator since 2011.
In January, he was named chairman of the Labor Committee, a position that carries a $12,500 stipend.
