Quantum Router Rental. Beware
My complaint is: I have been paying for a rental on a Quantum Router for more than 18 months at almost 9 dollars a month. My only option now is to buy the machine at the price of a new machine at 199 or continue to rent. This is unacceptable Business Practices. I have already through rental payments paid for +100% of the value of the equipment. Please advice.
Called Customer Service. Useless and no where but here to write to. Help

Wonder if CFPB has jurisdiction here. Will wait and see if I get a reply. Sure thousands of folks being ripped off!!!!!
If you don't have FiOS TV, you don't need the FiOS router, so long as your Internet connection is supplied through Ethernet and not MoCa (Coax). The FiOS router is needed for the TV Set Top Boxes to get guide information, on-demand information, and for wireless set top boxes to work.
Other than that, router rental was disclosed during service setup either in the terms or (what should be) in person. Verizon does not finance routers.
Rental is not the same as purchasing.
if you look at a cost of a rental at $12 per month equals $144 a year or $288 for two years. Versus at one time $150 for the Verizon router. Unless you return the rental and purchase your own like the other replyer stated it’s just throwing money away.
with a rental you have The ability to swap it out if defective at any time. Versus buying a brand new router if your store bought one dies on you.
There are pros and cons for both options. If you buy the router from Verizon you have a year warranty so if someone happens after you would have to buy another.
Some people chose to rent because there is the security of an unlimited warranty.
Like the other two posters said you can buy your own router. And Verizon is not financing it when renting. You can’t just decide after 18 months that you want to buy it instead. That option is done up front.
I’m sorry but I don’t agree that it is bad practice. Both options are given when you order service.
