Dear
Traveling across the state, I have met with countless New Yorkers fighting for change. From the North Country to New York City, wherever I go, working mothers, fathers, sons and daughters tell me that it is time we invest in the middle class, and make it easier for ordinary Americans to get ahead.
This year, we did just that. We raised the minimum wage for more than 2.3 million New Yorkers and increased wages by more than $15.7 billion statewide.
In New York, we believe in dignity, we believe in respect, and we believe in fairness in the workplace. We know that being able to put food on the table and pay your rent on time are not luxuries, but rather fundamental rights that should be in reach for all working families. No one with a full-time job should be condemned to a life of poverty.
That’s why, over the last year, we came together to make the fight for fair pay a success. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch our video, which tells the story of our journey to $15 and some of the critical voices who helped make it a reality.
We could not have charted this course and changed the economic landscape of our state without the support of all the New Yorkers who stood up and fought to raise the minimum wage to $15.
For this, I say thank you.
Sincerely,
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
