Type 1 diabetes patient opens up about daily struggles

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVVA) “It's day to day and you know there's no vacation from it. It's a constant thing 24 hours a day 7 days a week."
Donna Snyder was diagnosed with diabetes when she was three years old, and says all her life she has hoped a cure would be found.
"You know you have to think about everything that goes into your mouth,” says Snyder. “You have to count out all your chips, and all your crackers and you count those carbs and so you really have to think about everything you do."
Even though she has gotten use to living with type 1 diabetes, she says the disease still surrounds her life.
She is just one of many who live and deal with diabetes each day. And her own son Levi, was even diagnosed himself when he was 3 as well. Snyder says Levi is now 15 and he lives a normal life, but the disease is hard to keep track of with his busy schedule.
"I usually check to make sure that he has put his carbs in his pump for breakfast and half the time he hasn't so he you know it's keeping up on top of everything and just checking a lot which takes a lot of time," says Snyder.
Snyder hopes that with continued support and donations from fundraising events one day a cure will be found, and those diagnosed with diabetes will have one less thing to worry about.
