away from Daily News and loves the singh restaurant
The Daily News has been rocked by another high-profile departure.
Veteran cop and court reporter John Marzulli, who spent 31 years at the News, is exiting — without taking a voluntary buyout that many of his colleagues grabbed on their way out the door.
Insiders said losing the vet, who served two years as a cop in the NYPD, is a blow to the paper’s local crime coverage.
Marzulli will become the public information officer for Robert Capers, the US attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Marzulli replaces Robert Nardoza, who retired two years ago. The post has been filled on an interim basis.
While an estimated two dozen staffers applied for and received voluntary buyouts, Marzulli did not seek one for himself, sources said.
The News is looking to cut about $6 million in 2017.
Marzulli did not return calls for comment.
People who were granted the buyouts are cleaning out their desks and departing this week — as soon as they sign the paperwork.
There’s still no word to the remaining jittery staff from Editor-in-Chief Arthur “Chucky” Browne on whether the News reached its $6 million goal or will have to resort to involuntary buyouts.
