Ariana Grande is wrong about Crohn’s disease causing ‘butthole eyes’

Ariana Grande might want to doublecheck WebMD before she starts tweeting about medical issues.
The “Sweetener” singer slammed Barstool Sports on Thursday after it tweeted out an article titled, “Does Pete Davidson Have Butthole Eyes?”
Grande responded, “Y’all do kno this man has an auto immune disease …… right? ….. like you do understand what you’re doing when u do this right? jus wanna make sure.”
While it was a valiant effort to try and defend her fiancĂ©, Grande is wrong. According to Dr. Albert Knapp, a top gastroenterologist in New York City, Crohn’s disease doesn’t cause eyes that are sunken in, or what’s now known as “butthole eyes.”
“The reason they’re sunken is because people with Crohn’s disease can sometimes become dehydrated,” Dr. Knapp told Page Six on Friday. “But when you rehydrate they return to normal. Crohn’s disease does not directly cause eyes that look sunken in.”
He affirmed, “There’s no direct correlation between Crohn’s disease and sunken eyes.”
Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines, especially of the colon and ileum, associated with ulcers and fistulae, according to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Because it is chronic, patients with Crohn’s disease experience periods when it flares up and causes symptoms, followed by periods of remission when a patient may not experience any symptoms at all.
So, while dehydration may have caused Davidson’s eyes to appear that way that day, his Crohn’s disease did not.
