Suffolk County Legis. Kevin McCaffrey (R-Lindenhurst) has won another three-year term as president of Teamsters Local 707.
McCaffrey won by a vote of 440-409 over challenger George Foy, according to results tabulated Thursday.
McCaffrey has been the union's leader since 2000 and earlier had served as secretary-treasurer. He has been a legislator since 2016 and until this year was leader of the GOP caucus.
His victory came even though members of the local who work at Nassau regional Off-Track Betting Corp. voted down their contract during the presidential campaign.
“It feels good,” McCaffrey said, “We’ve worked hard and done the right thing but there’s more that has to be done.”
McCaffrey said talks on the still unsettled contract with Nassau OTB, where workers have been without an agreement for a decade, will resume shortly.
