when it comes time to bet the ranch

each of us calls the shots
but surgery and radiation at best buys time but if you can say p53 or james d watson it is possibly that metformin and aspirin do not harm , no worse and perhaps much better

Runner’s heartbroken husband posts photo of her ‘before she heads up to heaven’

A distance runner who has been battling a rare form of cancer for the past decade is now in grave condition, her heartbroken husband confirmed to The Post.
Gabriele Grunewald, 32, who was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma in 2009 while at the University of Minnesota, was moved to comfort care Sunday after being readmitted to an intensive care unit at a Minneapolis hospital on Tuesday due to septic shock.
“It breaks my heart to say but overnight Gabriele’s status worsened with worsening liver function causing confusion,” Grunewald’s husband, Justin, wrote on Instagram. “Wanting to do her no harm, we have made the difficult decision to move her to comfort [care] this afternoon.”
Grunewald on Monday was “sleeping and lying comfortably” on a couch at the couple’s home in Minneapolis, her husband said. An earlier report Monday indicating that she passed away late Sunday – citing social media posts by her brother — was inaccurate, her husband told The Post.
“Just comfort measures,” Grunewald told The Post when asked what treatment his wife was receiving, adding that he was sitting with her Monday afternoon before declining further comment.
Justin Grunewald said on Instagram that he shared the update on his wife and four-time cancer survivor so fans and supporters could send her one last message “before she heads up to heaven.” He also posted photos of Grunewald running along a shoreline, the couple smiling as they embraced on a beach and them holding hands on a hospital bed.
“At the end of the day people won’t remember the [personal records] run or the teams qualified for, but they will remember that hard period in their life where they were losing hope but they found inspiration in a young lady who refuses to give up,” Justin Grunewald wrote.
Grunewald also posted a letter he wrote a few years ago, thanking her for showing him “what it’s like to be and feel” alive.
“I know life is scary and I know we have won the lottery of uncertainty, and it’s not fair, but I still choose our life of uncertainty and at times fear, over any alternative option I could think of,” Justin Grunewald wrote. “I have so much fun with you and have learned more from having you as my best friend and wife than I learned in the rest of my life combined.”
Gabriele Grunewald — whose battle against cancer has inspired an outpouring of support on social media, including a “BraveLikeGabe” hashtag — was a senior running track and cross-country at the University of Minnesota when she was diagnosed in 2009, the Star Tribune reports.
A year later, Grunewald finished second in the 1,500 meters at the 2010 NCAA Championships after having surgery and radiation treatment. She then became the US indoor champion at 3,000 meters in 2014 before continuing to run professionally as recently as 2017 despite additional treatment for cancer in her thyroid and liver, the newspaper reports.

Metformin inhibits salivary adenocarcinoma growth through cell cycle arrest and apoptosis

Abstract

The inhibitory effects of metformin have been observed in many types of cancer. However, its effect on human salivary gland carcinoma is unknown. The effect of metformin alone or in combination with pp242 (an mTOR inhibitor) on salivary adenocarcinoma cells growth were determined in vitro and in vivo. We found that metformin suppressed HSY cell growth in vitro in a time and dose dependent manner associated with a reduced expression of MYC onco-protein, and the same inhibitory effect of metformin was also confirmed in HSG cells. In association with the reduction of MYC onco-protein, metformin significantly restored p53 tumor suppressor gene

reminds me of my friend ej ratner who had a patient bill referred to him by nyu . bill showed up  at 2140 cruger  bx 10462 with the revolver loaded and asked help which ratner provided obvitaing the need for the infallible hiram maxim healthcare solution

a pretty picture and a sad story the ny post at its finest?
