XPO Logistics Inc. named former General Electric Co. executive Aris Kekedjian as a new independent director, adding to its board a corporate leader who helped GE’s efforts to transform its business in recent years by selling off assets.
Mr. Kekedjian’s 30-year career at GE included leadership of the mergers and acquisitions team at GE Capital from 2010 to 2016, when the group executed tens of billions of dollars in deals aimed at making the division smaller and easier to manage. He was chief investment officer at the parent company when it merged its oil and gas business with industrial giant Baker Hughes Inc.

The appointment comes as XPO Chief Executive Bradley Jacobs, who built the Greenwich, Conn.-based logistics company through a rapid series of acquisitions, is returning XPO to the M&A market after a lull over the past two years.
Morgan Stanley in a research note Sept. 26 said the company is “looking at individual opportunities rather than the pipeline they had before and smaller deals rather the ‘whales’ that they were chasing previously.”
Mr. Kekedjian is now an adviser on global strategy, finance and deals at consulting firm Webbs Hill Advisors LLC, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“Aris has three decades of Fortune 20 experience, and has executed M&A transactions with a combined value of over $300 billion,” Mr. Jacobs said in a statement. “His C-suite background adds a strong global component to the financial acumen of our board.”
