Cuomo orders review on Bronx hospital that released cop killer
Governor Cuomo ordered a review into a Bronx hospital Thursday after it was revealed by The Post that the medical center released cop killer Alexander Bonds just days before the tragic shooting.
Cuomo is trying to determine why the gunman “sought a psychiatric exam, and was quickly released” from St Barnabas hospital just days before slaying officer Miosotis Familia.
“Under tragic circumstances such as these, it is critical to ensure all proper procedures and safeguards were taken,” the governor said in a statement.
“At my direction, the state Department of Health and Office of Mental Health are launching an immediate review of St. Barnabas Hospital’s actions and policies in admitting, treating and discharging this individual.”
The Post reported on Wednesday that Bonds girlfriend said the cop killer suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and she had tried to get him treatment.
“The girlfriend of Mr. Bonds took him to St. Barnabas Hospital on July 1 for psychiatric treatment,” Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said Thursday.
“He was released later that day. “
