Lobbyist Al D'Amato 'in great spirits' about Trump win

Al D’Amato, the founder of lobbying firm Park Strategies and a former Republican U.S. senator from New York, is thrilled about Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election.
“I am in great spirits. I feel great for the people of our country,” D’Amato, who had previously announced his support for Trump, said Sunday during an interview on grocery store magnate John Catsimatidis’ radio program on AM 970.
“I salute our president-elect. When he he first announced, I never thought he was serious,” D’Amato admitted.
D’Amato and his family were publicly split over Trump’s candidacy. A week before the presidential election, Hillary Clinton’s campaign announced that D’Amato’s son Chris, also a principal at Park Strategies, was among several prominent Republicans backing her candidacy over their party nominee’s.
D’Amato has supported many Democrats in the years since he left the Senate, and backed both Kirsten Gillibrand’s candidacy and Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his re-election. On Sunday, he praised Trump for his persistence against what he described as the “unscrupulous” media and suggested Trump should appoint former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani as attorney general.
“I think one great appointment and someone who will follow the law and not bend the law as he or she sees fit as the attorney general is Rudy Giuliani,” D’Amato said.
D’Amato’s lobbying firm — which has clients in real estate, communications, education and defense, including United Technologies, Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics — may also stand to benefit from a Trump presidency, with some budget experts predictingTrump’s platform calls for increases in defense spending of between $500 billion and $1 trillion.
