NYRA partners with Tampa Bay Downs and Oaklawn Park to offer all-stakes Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday
FOX Sports Saturday At The Races, the live racing television program providing nationwide coverage of the best thoroughbred racing from marquee venues around the country, continues on Saturday with an outstanding lineup with Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks implications, featuring live stakes racing from Aqueduct Racetrack, Oaklawn Park, Tampa Bay Downs, and Santa Anita Park.
The two-hour FOX Sports Saturday At The Races program, produced by NYRA, will air from 4-6:00 p.m. on FS2, featuring live coverage of the 35th renewal of the $150,000 Jimmy Winkfield from Aqueduct, the $100,000 King Cotton from Oaklawn and extensive coverage of the lucrative Sam F. Davis card from Tampa Bay Downs.
The Grade 3, $250,000 Sam F. Davis, a 1 1/16-mile route offering 10-4-2-1 qualifying points for the "Run for the Roses" on May 4 at Churchill Downs, highlights the Tampa segment of the broadcast, which also includes the $150,000 Suncoast for sophomore fillies which offers 10-4-2-1 points on the path to the Kentucky Oaks; and the grassy Grade 3, $175,000 Endeavour, for fillies and mares, 4-years-old and upward.

Stop scratching on holidays
Published: June 1, 2012

Off Track Betting in New York State has been racing into a crisis called shrinking revenue. Some people have spitballed a solution: Don’t close on holidays.
New York State Racing Law bars racing on Christmas, Easter and Palm Sunday, and the state has ruled OTBs can’t handle action on those days, even though they could easily broadcast races from out of state.
“You should be able to bet whenever you want,” said Jackson Leeds, a Nassau OTB employee who makes an occasional bet. He added some irrefutable logic: “How is the business going to make money if you’re not open to take people’s bets?”
Elias Tsekerides, president of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, said OTB is open on Greek Orthodox Easter and Palm Sunday.
“I don’t want discrimination,” Tsekerides said. “They close for the Catholics, but open for the Greek Orthodox? It’s either open for all or not open.”
OTB officials have said they lose millions by closing on Palm Sunday alone, with tracks such as Gulfstream, Santa Anita, Turf Paradise and Hawthorne running.
One option: OTBs could just stay open and face the consequences. New York City OTB did just that back in 2003. The handle was about $1.5 million – and OTB was fined $5,000.
Easy money.

All five races will be offered as part of the Cross Country Pick 5, offering a low 15 percent takeout, $0.50 minimum base wager and mandatory payout.
Hosted by NYRA, wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is available through NYRA Bets, on track, ADW platforms, and at simulcast facilities across the country. For more information on the Cross Country Pick 5, please visit NYRA.com/CrossCountry.
The February 9 edition of FOX Sports Saturday at the Races will also feature the Grade 2, $200,000 Las Virgenes, a Kentucky Oaks qualifier offering 10-4-2-1 points, from Santa Anita Park.
FOX Sports Saturday At The Races is presented by America's Best Racing, Runhappy and Claiborne Farm. Hosted by Greg Wolf, the live shows will include commentary, handicapping and racing analysis from a combination of FOX Sports, NYRA, Oaklawn Park and Stronach Group personalities.
The 2019 season of FOX Sports Saturday At The Races, which kicked off last weekend with a show highlighted by a dramatic win by Tax in the Grade 3 Withers at Aqueduct, will include 12 broadcasts boasting more than 24 hours of in-depth coverage and analysis of major stakes races and key Triple Crown preps such as the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth from Gulfstream Park, the Grade 2 San Felipe from Santa Anita, and Grade 3 Gotham from the Big A.
