4 NY PML Sec 109 is vague indefinite and/or overly broad

Roman Catholic Easter Sunday in preference to Greek Orthodox  Easter Sunday. Is it any wonder that NY is bankrupt and its OTBs going bankrupt one after the other? See NY PML Sec 109 and NY Const. Art. 1, Sec. 3 etc. You might think that one as yet unidicted NY official with standing would avail themselves of a FREE formal or informal opinion from  NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

Letter: Why close racetrack on Palm Sunday?

To see what's wrong up in Albany, one only needs to look at the fact that the Aqueduct Racetrack was closed on Palm Sunday. On an average Sunday, The Big A has a total handle of between $6 million and $7 million, of which New York State takes a percentage.
Racing also injects money into the industry, paying jockeys, trainers, grooms, etc. Hundreds of employees -- pari-mutuel clerks and racing officials -- help put on the show, which the state gets a piece of in income taxes.
All of this, worth thousands upon thousands of dollars, was lost because on an antiquated law. Not being allowed to race on Christmas or Easter is OK, but Palm Sunday? The New York Racing Authority races on Thanksgiving, and that's a holiday that the vast majority of us celebrate.
Changing this law would be a slam-dunk revenue creator.

Stop scratching on holidays

Off Track Betting in New York State has been racing into a crisis called shrinking revenue. Some people have spitballed a solution: Don’t close on holidays.
New York State Racing Law bars racing on Christmas, Easter and Palm Sunday, and the state has ruled OTBs can’t handle action on those days, even though they could easily broadcast races from out of state.
“You should be able to bet whenever you want,” said Jackson Leeds, a Nassau OTB employee who makes an occasional bet. He added some irrefutable logic: “How is the business going to make money if you’re not open to take people’s bets?”
Elias Tsekerides, president of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, said OTB is open on Greek Orthodox Easter and Palm Sunday.
“I don’t want discrimination,” Tsekerides said. “They close for the Catholics, but open for the Greek Orthodox? It’s either open for all or not open.”
OTB officials have said they lose millions by closing on Palm Sunday alone, with tracks such as Gulfstream, Santa Anita, Turf Paradise and Hawthorne running.
One option: OTBs could just stay open and face the consequences. New York City OTB did just that back in 2003. The handle was about $1.5 million – and OTB was fined $5,000.
Easy money.

About Me

As a trial attorney specializing in education law, I am uniquely qualified to serve on the Board of Education. I have been dealing and negotiating with school boards, school administrators and school attorneys for more than a decade. I am an expert in the federal and state constitutions, laws and regulations that affect students and educational programming, and have litigated cases and published articles in law journals related to education and special education. 

In addition to my professional qualifications I am the mother of two Baldwin students and am deeply committed to the success of Baldwin and the Baldwin schools. 

I believe the importance of a strong bond between our families, our community and our schools cannot be overstated. When families, businesses and community members are connected to and invested in the schools, everyone benefits. To this end, I have devoted my time not only to my family, but also to the school system and the community. For example, over the past few years, my involvement has included the following:

• Member of the PTA and a class parent for both of our children.
• Member of the Baldwin Educational Assembly Budget Committee, which studies charges by the Board of Education related to the District's budget, and a former member of the BEA Community Relations Committee.
• Co-Vice-President for Concerned Parents of Baldwin, a community organization that gives annual humanitarian awards to middle and high school students, and scholarships to graduating students. CPOB also founded and runs an annual celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. 
• Active member of the Baldwin Civic Association and participant on the BCA Quality of Life Committee. I organized a "Drains to Bay" effort this past year to reduce pollution of our waterways and am currently leading a community tree-planting project. My family and I have also participated in various BCA events, including decorating planters and lampposts for the holidays and participating in the scarecrow contest.
•  Member of the Human Relations Advisory Council, which addresses issues related to ethnicity, race, religion and discrimination. The HRAC has recently tackled a variety of important topics, including celebrating Baldwin's diversity and addressing bullying in the schools. 
• Former coach of Baldwin Eagles soccer team.
• Leader of effort to strengthen the sense of community in my neighborhood. I was instrumental in starting and organizing an annual holiday dinner and re-starting and running our street’s summer Block Party. 

My husband and I moved to Baldwin because it was important for us to raise our children in a safe, middle class, multi-cultural community, with good schools. In my opinion, we found the perfect place in Baldwin. 

While I love Baldwin, I am concerned about the direction of the school district. We need to stop cutting educational programs and instead seek to lower our tax burden by employing responsible cost-saving measures, generating new revenue and developing a strong relationship between families, community members and the schools. Please join me in making this happen and ensuring Baldwin remains a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
