Experience

  • PresidentSaratoga County Chamber of Commerce – Present (6 years 2 months)
With 2,700 members, the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce is the largest chamber in New York's Capital District. Please visit us online at www.saratoga.org to learn more about the chamber, our professional staff, our members, and our beautiful community which is a model others are trying to emulate.

  • President/CEOAdirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce –   (7 years 6 months)
Looking back at my time at the ARCC, my most significant accomplishments are likely to be helping the Glens Falls BID to restore City Park, in downtown Glens Falls, and organizing the business community and public at large to stop a proposed increase in the County's sales tax. I'd like to think that these success and others that I'm not mentioning happened because we focused on getting the right people on the bus first. At the ARCC, I was honored to work with an outstanding group of business leaders who volunteered to serve on our Board of Directors. I also worked closely with an incredibly talented group of professionals who worked with me every day to get things done of benefit to the region's economy and quality of life.

  • Vice PresidentNorth Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce –   (7 years 9 months)
As Vice President of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, I was predominantly responsible for working on a wide range of advocacy, economic development and tourism marketing related initiatives. We developed the first-in-the-nation chamber led energy aggregation program in 1997 and worked closely with Senate President Tom Birmingham to establish the Workforce Training Fund program. I learned a great deal during my time with this chamber working for David McKeehan, the President, who is a great friend and mentor to this day.

Projects

  • Chamber Trip to Abu DhabiStarting
A 39-member delegation from the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce traveled to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in September 2012. During our visit, we visited with leaders from ATIC & GLOBALFOUNDRIES at their wafer-shaped headquarters building in Abu Dhabi. At a reception in their welcome and education center, we thanked these leaders for their $7 billion investment in Saratoga County - - the construction of Fab 8 which is the world's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility. In Dubai, Frank Gabriel, the CEO of the Dubai Racing Club, gave us a personal tour of the Meydan Race Course. This facility is the most modern Thoroughbred horse racing facility in the world. It's a spectacular facility which offered us the chance to contrast the newest race course in the world with the Historic Saratoga Race Course, in Saratoga Springs. Besides these meetings, our delegation also had the unique opportunity to learn more about the Arab culture and the United Arab Emirates. This is all a part of our Chamber's effort to help Saratoga County become a global destination for tourists, talent and trade by being more welcoming and inclusive in partnering with people and companies from around the world.

Working with Elliott Masie, at the Masie Center, in Saratoga Springs, the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce is now creating the Saratoga Teleworkers Network. Via a LinkedIn group and in-person meetings, the Chamber is seeking to help local teleworkers in Saratoga County to come together to share ideas, challenges and opportunities. We're also seeking their advice as we seek to attract other teleworkers who can live anywhere to choose to live and work from Saratoga County. We believe this Chamber changes things and making Saratoga a community that embraces telework is one of our exciting new initaitives for 2013.
