Elections
2016
New York's 3rd Congressional District is a battleground district in 2016. Incumbent Steve Israel (D), who began serving in Congress in 2001, chose not to seek re-election in 2016, leaving the seat open. Israel announced his intention to retire in January 2016. Several Democratic candidates have declared their candidacy at this time: Anna Kaplan, Jon Kaiman and Steven Stern. David Gurfein is the only Republican candidate in the race thus far. The primary elections will take place on June 28, 2016. The general election will take place on November 8, 2016.[2][3][4][5][6]
