Republicans in control of Nassau’s Off-Track betting agency are continuing at least one contract from the agency's former Democratic administration — with Zimmerman/Edelson, Inc, the public relations/marketing firm run by National Democratic Committeeman Robert Zimmerman of Great Neck.
“We believe the firm’s experience and proven track record will play a critical role in our efforts to restore Nassau regional OTB to profitability,” said the agency’s new VP, Doug Diana (also the Baldwin GOP leader) in a statement issued through
Zimmerman/Edelson. The firm is paid a $6,000 monthly retainer.
It doesn’t hurt that Zimmerman has been tight with Nassau Republican Chairman Joseph Mondello for years. Or that he praised the chairman’s political acumen after Republican victories last year: “If American politics were the stock market, Joe Mondello's stock would be the hottest in either the Republican or Democratic parties." Zimmerman told Newsday in February.
