Laura Curran declares victory over Jack Martins in close Nassau executive race
Republican Jack Martins and Democrat Laura Curran late Tuesday night were locked in a tight race with 86 percent of the vote counted.
Democrat Laura Curran declared victory late Tuesday night over Republican Jack Martins in the race for Nassau County executive.
Just after 11:30 p.m., with nearly all precincts reporting, Curran led Martins by about 3 percentage points, or about 7,800 votes out of about 287,000 cast, according to the county Board of Elections.
“Tonight, Nassau voted to end the culture of corruption,” Curran told a crowd of cheering supporters at the Democrats’ party at The Inn at New Hyde Park.
