While nothing is official yet, political and law enforcement sources say Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano plans in the near future to appoint longtime Nassau Detectives Association President Tom Willdigg to be a deputy police commissioner.
Mangano has had a close relatonship with Willdigg, who has been mentioned in county circles as a possible replacement for now-retired Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey.
One source said Willdigg has told his members he will not run again for union president because of the promised appointment.
A spokesman for Mangano declined comment. Willdigg could not be reached.
