Teamsters Aren't Buying What They're Selling

Teamsters know a lemon when we see one. We're not buying what Hoffa and Gegare are selling—no matter how many recorded phone calls we get.
Hoffa is fighting for his job harder than he's fought for any Teamster member. If that makes you angry, you're not alone. Don't give up on our union and don't throw away your ballot. Join members who are standing up for change by voting Sandy Pope.
If you've already voted, THANK YOU. Please download the new leaflets and spread the word to other members. If you have NOT voted, there's still time. Ballots are due Nov. 14.
If you do not have a ballot, call 1-877-317-2011 to be mailed a new ballot.

What To Do If You Did Not Get A Ballot

If you did not get your ballot yet, call the Election Supervisor to request a replacement ballot at (877) 317-2011.
Ballots were mailed on Oct. 6. The Election Supervisor is now accepting calls from Teamsters who want a replacement ballot.
If you made a mistake marking your ballot or want to change your vote, call today and request a replacement ballot.
The replacement ballot hotline is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time during the week, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time on the weekends.
  • You must call during these hours.
  • You cannot leave a voicemail message. You must speak with a hotline operator directly.
  • You will be asked for your name, local union and the last four digits of your social security number.
You cannot call on behalf of another Teamster. You can help your fellow Teamsters vote by sending them this information by text—or by calling the replacement ballot hotline and handing your phone to the Teamster who needs a ballot.

Are you one of the 104,584?

IB Image104,584. That’s the number of ballots received as of today by the Election Supervisor. That is 7.8% of all eligible Teamsters.
And that’s typical. In the 2006 election for Teamster President, two out of three votes were returned after the first week.
Sure, some ballots are in the mail and on their way. But hundreds of thousands of ballots are still sitting on kitchen tables. (A detailed chart listing returns by region is available here).
That means we still have work to do—passing out leaflets, making calls, sending texts, and reminding Teamsters to vote.
And it means Sandy Pope can win this election—by turning out our votes now, and keeping at it, long after the Hoffa campaigners have stopped.

Do You Want to Be an Observer at the Vote Count?

Every campaign is entitled to send an observer to the vote count, which begins on Monday, Nov. 14 and will last about five days.
Current active Teamsters are entitled to unpaid union leave to attend.
Are you interested in being an observer for Sandy Pope? Click here to send us a message, or call the campaign at (718) 282-0282.

How to Vote for Sandy Pope

Here’s how to cast your ballot for Sandy Pope—the only candidate who can beat Hoffa and lead our union in a new direction:
  • You will be mailed a secret ballot on Oct. 6 to elect our International Union’s next General President.
  • Mark your ballot for the Independent Candidate, Sandy Pope. If you mark any slate oval you will cancel out your vote for Sandy Pope.
  • If you do not get a ballot by Oct. 12, call (877) 317-2011 to get a replacement mailed to your home.
You can vote for the other candidates of your choice for other offices by marking the oval next to their name. But do not mark any slate oval or you will cancel out your vote for Sandy Pope.

Ballots Out October 6

How You Can Help

IB ImageBallots to elect our next Teamster President hit the mail, Thursday, Oct. 6.
Every Teamster who wants change can help turn out the vote.  Here's how you can help.
Spread the word—especially with sample ballot leaflets. NEW sample ballot leaflets are available from the campaign.
Sample ballot leaflets are especially important because Sandy Pope is running as an Independent Candidate. Any vote for a slate will cancel out the vote for Sandy.
Send text messages to every supporter in your workplace and remind them to vote. And keep sending these messages to Get Out the Vote.
Make phone calls. Volunteers are getting together evenings and weekends to call other Teamsters and remind them to vote. Contact the campaign to find out how you can help.
Reach out beyond your workplace to other Teamsters and ask them to vote for Sandy Pope.
Will you do your part? Click here to let Sandy Pope know what you can do to help.

Seven Steps I’ll Take to Rebuild Our Union

IB Image 1. Close the Concessions Stand. We’ve had enough of Hoffa’s givebacks.
2. Enforce Our Contracts. Hold employers to the contracts they’ve signed. Organize Business Agent and steward trainings and use communications to beef up contract enforcement strategies.
3. Defend Teamster Benefits by organizing new companies into Teamster benefit funds—and stop letting Teamster employers out of the funds.
4. Take on the Nonunion Competition. Launch long-term, nationally coordinated campaigns in our core industries—including freight and Fed Ex. Expand funding to help local unions organize.
5. No Blank Checks to Politicians. Use political action funds to mobilize members and put the heat on politicians—not send them a blank check.
6. Put Union Power Before Union Politics. If you want to stand up to the employers, I will stand with you. Hoffa only cares about where you stand on his campaign.
7. Fight for All Teamsters. Put the power of the International Union behind Teamsters who work under local contracts. Fight for national standards for Teamsters who work in warehouse distribution, delivery, brewery and soft drink, airlines, waste, construction, school bus, the public sector, and other Teamster industries.
