Labor federation backs Suozzi bid

The Long Island Federation of Labor has endorsed Democrat Thomas Suozzi in his bid to return as Nassau County executive. "Tom Suozzi has shown that he respects county workers and their unions," said John Durso, the organization's president.
The group clashed with Suozzi during his second term over efforts to trim the county workforce. But Durso said last week that Suozzi would create middle-class jobs and restore the county's finances. Suozzi faces a primary race against businessman Adam Haber, who also seeks to face GOP incumbent Edward Mangano in November.
The federation also backed Democrat Howard Weitzman in his rematch against Nassau GOP Comptroller George Maragos.
