PLEASE POST Local 707 Teamsters UNION NOTICE
December 1, 2011
Today is the first official day of the merger between Local 707 and Local 858. On
behalf of the Executive Board and members of Teamster Local 707 I welcome the
Nassau Count OTB workers into Local 707. The move from the Plainview
offices to Hempstead [14 Front Street, Suite 300] is completed and your Union representatives can be reached at the new phone numbers[560-8513] and address posted in your branch.
Just because the furniture is in place and the phones are working does not mean the
transition from Local 858 to Local 707 is complete. Many of the Nassau OTB
workers have legitimate concerns about the merger and how it will benefit them. I
plan on working very hard over the next several weeks and months to visit all the
branches and meet as many workers as possible to listen to your concerns and
allow you an opportunity to meet me in person.
Off Track Betting is facing more challenges than ever before. The closure of NYC
OTB and the bankruptcy filing of Suffolk OTB highlight how difficult those
challenges are. To begin to deal with these issues, I scheduled meetings with the President of Nassau OTB [Joseph Cairo] and his staff. Were are also in the process of working with
other Unions involved with NYRA to develop a comprehensive legislative agenda
for the New York State legislative session. The actions or the inactions of the
Assembly and the Senate impact us and our future more than anything else. I plan
on using the lobbying efforts of our Joint Council, New York State Teamsters
Conference and contributions from our political action fund (DRIVE) to influence the legislation we need to grow and prosper today and in the future.
Once again I welcome everyone into Local 707 and look forward to working with everyone to deal with these challenges. I am hopeful by working together we will
once again return to the days of prosperity and stability good representation and a
stable OTB brought to everyone.
Fraternally,
Kevin McCaffrey President
[Barry Yomtov Former President of Local 858, now Teamsters Local 707 Business Agent et al]
[Note: No one or entity ever provided Nassau OTB employees with a copy of "the Merger Agreement and said merger was effected without a vote of the members of now deceased Local 858 whose cash flow declined when NYC OTB closed and the New York City OTB Mangers stopped paying dues to Local 858]
