there are two calendars, the Gregorian and the Julian Calendar and the State of New York can't pick one calendar over the other to determine when Easter Sunday and Palm Sunday is? See NY PML Sec 105.

Brian McCaffrey
 
Brian McCaffrey (President)

is a resident of Manhattan whose grandparents hail from County Tyrone and County Mayo.  He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame Indiana . He obtained his Law Degree from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois after serving as an Officer in the United States Navy, Pacific fleet as a Surface Warfare Officer and his ships Legal Officer. He is a founding member of the New York City Law firm of Leffler Marcus & McCaffrey, LLC. He is a trial attorney with over 20 years of trial experience. His practice encompasses defending corporate clients in employment, labor law, toxic torts, lead paint, medical malpractice, and products liability cases.  Brian became president of the IABANY in December of 2006.

John Murphy

is from Ramsgrange, Co. Wexford and came to the U.S. in 1993 on a scholarship to Mercyhurst College, Erie, PA. After graduating with a degree in history in 1997, John spent two years as a Trial Preparation Assistant in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and then pursued his J.D. at the University of Notre Dame. After graduating from Notre Dame, John joined White & Case, LLP and spent four years as a litigation associate before moving with some former White & Case partners to develop Linklaters New York litigation department in November 2006. John's practice area is in commercial litigation, with a focus on securities litigation. In 2006, John started the Young Irish Lawyers Society in New York and the group's 30+ members have now become part of IABANY.

Domhnall O'Cathain

is from Ballincollig, Co.Cork. He graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from University College Cork in 2000. Following graduation, he spent several years working in the construction industry in both Ireland and the U.S.A. In 2004, he returned to his legal studies and graduated with a LLM in International Business and Trade Law from Fordham Law School in 2005. From 2005 he worked as an associate with Kopff, Nardelli and Dopf, LLP where his emphasis was on pre-trial preparation, pre-trial discovery and depositions for personal injury litigation. He is currently an associate with Lesnevich & Marzano-Lesnevich, LLC.

Sean Campbell

is a native New Yorker with ancestral roots in Derry and Donegal. He is a graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He attended New York University's Stern School of Business, and obtained his J.D. from New York Law School. Sean is currently engaged in his own practice, Law Offices of Sean Campbell, with a concentration in commercial, financial, securities and banking disputes and litigation.  Prior to establishing his practice, he was Vice President and Senior Counsel for litigation at Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Sean was with Prudential-Bache Securities and E.F. Hutton & Co.  He has served as an arbitrator for the New York Stock Exchange.

Janet Walsh
 
Janet Walsh (Treasurer)

Limerick-born Janet Walsh is a trial lawyer in New York City specializing in mass torts and other complex personal injury litigation on behalf of injured people. She is a graduate of the Law Faculty at University College Dublin, (B.C.L., 1991, magna cum laude) and completed her professional training to become a solicitor at the Law Society of Ireland in 1994, where she was awarded the Law Society Conveyancing Prize. Janet moved to New York in 1994 and was admitted to the New York State Bar the following year. Since then, she has specialized in representing plaintiffs in complex product liability litigation, including asbestos, DES and breast implant litigation. Her role in negotiations with defendants was instrumental in achieving a global settlement for foreign claimants in the breast implant litigation. She has tried a number of asbestos cases resulting in significant settlements. In addition, she has resolved thousands of claims with bankrupt asbestos companies, totaling millions of dollars in distributions. Janet has also represented numerous individuals with employment discrimination lawsuits and has successfully resolved dozens of these cases. She has been associated with the Locks Law Firm since 1996.

Janet also handles cases involving general negligence and medical malpractice. She has also advised Irish individuals and corporate entities on matters of US law.

In addition to the New York State Bar, Janet is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Roll of Solicitors in the Republic of Ireland. Janet is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the American Association for Justice. In 1998, Janet was instrumental in the revival of the Irish Lawyers Association, now the Irish American Bar Association of New York, served as its President from 2001 to 2002 and is currently a director.

Elizabeth O'Connor (Secretary)

graduated from University College Dublin in 1982 with a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce. She obtained her Diploma in Legal Studies from the College of Commerce in Rathmines, Dublin. She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Ireland in 1988, and, after moving to London, was admitted as a solicitor of England & Wales in 1991. Elizabeth worked as an associate in the corporate department of a London firm for six years, after which she moved to New York in 1994 where she joined White & Case and specialized in banking and general corporate matters. She is currently working in the corporate department of Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP, specializing in banking, corporate and securities transactions.

John Burns

graduated from the Law School of the Honorable Society of King's Inns, Dublin, 1986 B.L. (Barrister-at -Law) degree. John was the first American undergraduate admitted to the King's Inns. John was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1988. He is one of the founding members of the Irish Lawyers Association of New York, 1987 the predecessor organization to IABANY. John has represented members of various New York City municipal unions in administrative/disciplinary cases and criminal and civil matters. For close to six years John was an Assistant District Attorney/Senior Trial Attorney with the Kings County District Attorney's Office. He currently represents New York City Police Officers in civil matters in state and federal court.

Barbara McCormick

obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Law from Trinity College Dublin in 1994. She spent several years working with a Belfast law firm, before immigrating to the United States in 2000, after passing the New York State Bar exam. She currently works for the Manhattan-based law firm of Smith Dornan & Shea, which specializes in entertainment, music and media law. Barbara works with their immigration law department and processes visas for musicians, artists and other professionals.

a native of Cork, has her own practice, Murray Law LLC, focusing on the representation of individual and corporate clients in criminal cases, internal investigations and complex civil litigation. Prior to branching out on her own, she was a litigation counsel at O’Melveny & Myers LLP, where she specialized in white collar crime, and represented an outside director of Tyco, who was one of the key witnesses in the criminal trials of Tyco’s CEO, CFO and General Counsel. She honed her criminal trial skills over five years with the Federal Defenders’ office for the Eastern District of New York. Her first position in the New York legal scene upon emigrating to the U.S. in 1990, was litigation associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. She received her law degree with First Class Honors from University College Cork in 1989, and her masters in law with First Class Honors from the University of Cambridge in 1990.
